The soft music from the record player filled the room, a gentle counterpoint to the patter of rain against the windowpane. She was curled up on the sofa, a warm blanket draped over her legs, a mug of hot chocolate warming her hands. A feeling of contentment washed over her as she watched the droplets race down the glass. The doorbell rang, a harsh sound that cut through the silence. It was Mrs. Carter, looking visibly agitated.

She pointed towards the tall, slender cedar that lined their driveways. “Excuse me, Ms. Jones,” she began in a rushed tone, “I need to discuss the tree…”

She took a deep, calming breath. "Of course, Mrs. Carter. Come on in."
